Inter School Teachers Dance Competition 2018


On Saturday September 22, a memorable Inter-School Dance Competition was organized by Saraswati Vidyalaya High School and Junior College of Science, Rabodi, Thane. The mega-event ‘Ek Sham Sarasvi ke Naam’ was remarkable because it introduced a Dance Competition for the very first time!

The grand show commenced with the arrival of 9 different teams – Kohinoor International School Kurla, NKT School Thane, Jindal School Vasind, SVPM Kalwa, OLPS Chembur, DSV School Thane, New Horizon School Airoli, New English School Kalwa and Aatman School Thane. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Sadanand Rane, a renowned dancer and Mrs. Ulka Gaikwad, a student of Mr. Rane who has been teaching dance in Sarasawati Vidyalaya for 10 years. There was a colourful welcome followed by the lighting of the lamp and felicitation of the guests.

Everyone sat glued to their seats as the teams from various schools presented their programmes in a truly mesmerizing show. The teams presented folk dances of Maharashtra, Goa, Rajasthan and Gujarat; and captivated the audience with their stupendous performance. The teachers of Sarasawati Vidyalaya, who had recently won the first prize in a dance competition in Vashi, gave an enthralling dance performance and received a rapturous applause from the audience. A key highlight was the phenomenal dance performance of Chief Guest Mr. Sadanand Rane with his disciple Mrs. Ulka Gaikwad.

The Chief Guest complimented all the participants and was full of praise for their wonderful performance. The results were declared by the Principal of Sarasawati Vidyalaya Mrs. Anita Pinto, who was elated at the performance and congratulated all the participants for their splendid performance. In her speech, she emphasized that focus on folk dances was the best way to preserve our culture. The Vice-Principal of Sarasawati Vidyalaya Mrs. Manju Mishra was delighted and appreciated the fact that the teachers performed the dance like professionals despite not being formally trained. The New Horizon School bagged the first prize for their performance of a Maharashtrian folk song. The second prize went to Kohinoor International School Kurla and the third prize was won by SVPM Kalwa for their presentation of a Goan dance.

The entire event turned out to be a huge success due to the vision, leadership and guidance of Principal Mrs. Anita Pinto, Vice-Principal Mrs. Manju Mishra and Co-ordinator Mrs. Meenakshi Bangera.
